Press Release - Stamford Advocate, Sept 24, 2008

Stamford and lower Fairfield County residents facing foreclosure, or unmanageable credit card debt, can now turn to the Law Office of George H. Weber for specialized, expert and compassionate legal assistance.   Weber’s firm focuses primarily on consumer bankruptcy law and opened new offices at 2001 West Main St in Stamford.

“Bankruptcy is the focus of my practice,” says Weber.  “Basically I am an attorney who helps people with unmanageable debts regain control over their financial lives.  By utilizing the full power of the consumer bankruptcy laws, I can help clients eliminate many of their debts and give them a fresh start.”  Weber’s services include stopping home foreclosure, preventing car repossession, stopping wage garnishment, debt collection harassment and disconnection of utility services.

Most importantly, Weber helps clients overcome the fears that often surround filing for bankruptcy. He understands clients concerns about the possible social stigma involved, and can assuage their worries that such a filing will haunt them for life, preventing them from ever borrowing again.  He even has to reassure people that bankruptcy options are still available to them, given recent changes in the law.

“My job is to ensure that clients know that I understand their situation, and to instill in them the confidence that I can successfully solve their problems,” he says.  “They must also trust that I will be completely upfront with them about their situation. Bankruptcy protections are powerful but not always the best option for every debt problem.”

Connecticut has the third highest credit card debt per borrower nationwide. The total number of consumer bankruptcies filed in Connecticut during the first six months of 2008 increased 42.2 percent over the same period in 2007, according to data released by the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts.

Weber’s clients are primarily middle-class individuals who have experienced a substantial income reduction, triggered by lay offs or work missed due to illness. Some are facing medical problems with little or no insurance coverage.  Still others have been caught in the mortgage crisis.  Weber also collaborates with organizations and individuals whose aim it is to assist those in financial difficulties.

Once a client has signed on, Weber works with them to determine the best course of action – straight bankruptcy vs. debt reorganization for example – and then guides them through the entire filing process.  His initial consultation is free and he only charges once someone requests assistance with bankruptcy filing.

At the Law Office of George H. Weber clients will find the personalized service, direct attorney contact and flexible evening and weekend hours not always available at the bigger firms.
